Reducing pain and negative self-talk.
“I was very distressed about my health, particularly unexplained and unpredictable pain. I had heard of hypnosis in podcasts but I didn't pay much attention because I didn't think it was something I could access, or even that I would find it very useful.
Priya is a friend of mine, knew about the issues I was facing, and suggested we try hypnosis. She made it clear that I would be in charge. I didn't have to fear that I would have to do something I disagreed with or felt uncomfortable about. She also explained that we would be realistic and use the words that speak of potential change. She said my mind would not expect that I could jump into a new reality, but it would accept a more gradual change. That felt intuitively right to me.
We worked together on thinking about what positive changes I wanted to see in my life related to healing and better health. We developed a script which Priya then read out to me after putting me into a state of hypnosis. She then sent the script to me to listen to for the next three weeks.
I loved the script that we developed together. We looked at health in a holistic way. The script included a willingness to accept change in my way of thinking and in my way of living. It was a great delight to listen to it each day before I went to bed.
I often had insights that were related to these issues during the day, so I noted them and shared them with Priya at the next session. One was that I associated being ill with getting attention as a child and I wanted to leave that behind as an unhealthy pattern.
Through the insights that emerged as a result of our focusing on my health issues, we identified the need to develop a second script around affirmations. Again, we went into hypnosis while Priya read these to me and this time she asked me to repeat them. I played this each night for the next three weeks, soaking in the affirmations. They brought up so many instances where I had received the opposite message as a child, as a young adult, and later. I journalled and shared these with Priya.
Priya had explained to me at the outset that I should not be looking for a quick fix, so that was really not my focus. I was so grateful for the relief I felt from listening to the script during self-hypnosis each day. And thrilled with the insights that emerged through the experience, which led to changes in the way I framed my life experiences. At the same time, I was also working on other changes in my life, including diet and exercise. I noticed that there is a huge drop in the pain I experience on a regular basis, and a very significant shift in my attitude to any pain that I do have. My life has been transformed in some way. I feel lighter, and am very grateful to Priya for her work with me.”
